To be fitted by trained mechanic. For some reason, I found this hilarious.
In all fairness, it *is* held on by a circlip, which can go flying everywhere if you aren't careful removing it.

A freaking footrest. Where have come with all the disclaimers on products.

It's the health and safety executive!
“These people go on to tell us that mobile phones will cook our children’s ears, that long-haul flights will fill our legs with thrombosis and that meat is murder. They want an end to all deaths – and it doesn’t stop there. They don’t even see why anyone should have to suffer from a spot of light bruising.
Every week, as we filmed my television chat show, food would be spilt on the floor, and every week the recording would have to be stopped so it could be swept away. ‘What would happen,’ said the man from health and safety, ‘if a cameraman were to slip over?’ ‘Well,’ I would reply, ‘he’d probably have to stand up again.”
Thus Spake Jeremy C. R.

I've bought Triumph repair parts before. They're WAY more expensive than you'd think they ought to be.
Also, I ignored the "trained mechanic" bit :)

I have owned many British cars and bikes. Peace of mind does not exactly describe what I feel when I think of the Lucas electrics or the leaky seals.

That particular one was $38. For the footrest assembly.
The fairings? That's a whole different story, and one I would agree with you on.

Hmmm, that's not too bad. I remember paying a ridiculous amount for the bracket that the footpeg attaches to. I think the pegs for my Speed 4 were more like 60 bucks, but that may have been a function of where I was buying parts. I don't think Bike Bandit ever does anyone any favors on price.

Oh no, they don't. Sometimes your dealer does. The footpeg for mine was originally ordered for a crashed bike (not mine) which was then totalled out by insurance.
Guy at the dealer really just wanted to get rid of the part as opposed to keeping it on the shelf.
